Kemal Kilicdaroglu, rival of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has just taken the stage at the opposition headquarters in Ankara to address supporters.

"I could not defend your rights." I wasn't running away from an unjust structure, I couldn't be a silent devil…” he said.

"I could not remain silent that millions of people in this country are becoming second-class citizens." I couldn't let them stand up for your rights. That your children go to bed hungry. That farmers cannot produce. I could not allow these things,” he added.

He says he will "continue to fight" to defend Turkey's rights. He especially thanked "women and young people".

"They are the real heroes," he says.

He pointed out that there is a desire among the people to support the authoritarian regime.

That, he says, "will continue to be part of our story."

At the end, he thanks the 25 million people who voted for him – and says "the battle continues".

The latest unofficial results show him four percentage points behind Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the presidential runoff with a majority of votes counted.
