Cuba's first LGBTI hotel reopens its doors to tourists
The Gran Muthu Rainbow Hotel in Cuba has reopened after being closed due to a pandemic. The five-star hotel is the first "LGBTI-friendly" hotel in this Caribbean country, and the guests are primarily foreigners, reports France24.
Cuba wants to attract all kinds of tourists, and the owners of this hotel hope that they have paved the way for mutual satisfaction, both for them and for the guests.
Ten months later, Cuba opened its borders to foreign visitors.
Among the first tourists to arrive at the hotel were guests from Canada, who consider this hotel a great asset.
"The hotel is phenomenal. "This is a great addition to the Caribbean, especially Cuba," said Canadian Eric Hiller.
His fellow citizen Kevin McGrath hopes the hotel will contribute to the fight of the LGBTI community in Cuba for their rights. "This is a really great thing and I hope it will inspire the government to make positive changes for the LGBTI community, for their rights, as well as other positive changes on the island," said a satisfied hotel guest.
Cubans hope their parliament will reconsider a referendum on the legality of same-sex marriage by the end of the year. If the Parliament approves the request, the citizens could go to a referendum in 2022.
