Thousands of people protested in Vienna today against restrictions imposed in various sectors of public life aimed at preventing the spread of Covid-19.

The Austrian government last month, faced with a daily increase in the number of newly infected, the first in Western Europe to re-quarantine and announce mandatory vaccines in February.

Protesters carried banners reading "I will decide for myself", "Let's make Austria great again" and "New elections"., which reflects the political turmoil faced by as many as three prime ministers in the past two months.

The parliamentary committee previously approved the proposal to double the quarantine to 20 days.

Austria, with a population of 8,9 million, has reported almost 1,2 million cases of Covid-19 and over 12.000 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

The number of new cases has been steadily declining since quarantine was introduced.
