Pensioners protest in Athens, demanding higher pensions
Restitution of 13 pensions, real increases in pensions, reduction of taxes on basic products, are part of the demands of the Greek pensioners who today protested in the center of Athens, reported the MIA correspondent.
From in front of the Greek Parliament, the pensioners headed to the prime minister's palace where their representatives were scheduled to meet with representatives of the Government.
The pensioners with whom MIA's correspondent from Athens spoke, say that with the current pensions they can barely make it to the end of the month and are looking for support measures from the Government.
- We are starving, that's why we are here. As a former bus driver, I have traveled over 9.000 kilometers and now I have no money for a ticket, says one of the pensioners.
The pensioner Afroditi, who worked in the Greek post office, says that they were deceived by the Government and Prime Minister Mitsotakis with the announcements of pension increases, because according to them, the increases are not real.
- We must send a strong message to the Government. We are here, we are present and we demand that all pensions be paid immediately, that there be real increases, that 13 pensions be returned, but also all cuts. We have to react, because we live in increasingly worse conditions, the pensioner tells MIA.
