The popular hair care product company, Olaplex, received a lawsuit from 28 women who claim their products cause hair loss and skin blisters.

The Olaplex product range includes shampoos, conditioners and masks for treating and restoring damaged hair. Olaplex has published test results showing that their products are safe to use.

"We are ready to vigorously fight to defend our company, our brand and our products against these baseless accusations," the company said in a statement on its Instagram account.

Olaplex has not recalled any of its products because of the lawsuit. The company claims that their products, which are made from patented chemical ingredients, significantly regenerate damaged hair. These are products specifically intended for people who bleach their hair, and some of them are sold exclusively to professional hairdressers, i.e. in hair salons. The company achieved huge success all over the world, and their products were promoted by some of the world's famous stars like Kim Kardashian and Drew Barrymore.

The lawsuit against Olaplex was filed last week in a California district court, alleging that the plaintiffs suffered hair loss, in some cases leaving them with huge bald head holes. In addition, their hair is said to have stood up dry, brittle and very damaged. Several photographs of the plaintiffs show bald patches on the scalp, which they claim they got by using Olaplex.

The BBC published a photo of one of the women who is suing the company, claiming that using the products caused holes in her scalp.

According to documents attached to the lawsuit, some of the women claim they experienced extreme itching, rashes, fungal infections, bacterial infections, burns, open wounds, all of which eventually led to depression.

The plaintiffs jointly seek damages from $ 75.000.
