Prof. Uzunov: The government should protect the poor now, all other measures are long-term
University professor Vancho Uzunov said tonight in the show "24 Analysis" on TV 24 that the boycott of markets is not an instrument of economic policy. According to him, the Government should protect the poor population with measures that will bring results.

"The boycott is not an instrument of economic policy and it was to draw attention and the Government finally said that the markets are to blame. If you have extra costs on Thursday and Friday, the markets are happy. The boycott is not an instrument. The Government should make an attempt to protect the standard of the poor population, to identify them and protect them accurately. That is short-term and that is a modern policy of the 21st century. All other measures are long-term," said the professor.
Uzunov explained that in our country, all governments use short-term measures and reforms because they only want to win the elections.
"We are a small market and we have imperfect competition. The idea that in a small economy everything will be solved by a free market is imagination. We must learn how to regulate the market. In our country, reforms are an unpopular measure during elections. Politicians want to win all elections and do not implement reforms. The solution to market failure is to control the market, not to let the bureaucracy take everything, but to regulate intelligently," he said.
The professor also spoke about subsidizing farmers.
"The subsidization of farmers began during the previous VMRO-DPMNE government, it went from a development measure to a populist vote-buying measure. When it changes and is focused on development, it will have an effect," added Uzunov.
