Detention for a man from Skopje who strangled his ex-wife in front of his minor children and threatened to kill her
The Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Skopje initiated proceedings against a 42-year-old person who is suspected of having committed a prolonged crime during domestic violence - Bodily injury according to Article 130 paragraph 2 in connection with paragraph 1 and in connection with Article 45 of the Criminal Code.
On July 10, in front of a building on "Jane Sandanski" boulevard, the suspect was returning the two minor children for whom they had a custody agreement to his ex-wife. At first he insisted to go up to the apartment and talk, and when the victim did not allow him, he blocked their way in front of the entrance and started punching her in the head area, squeezing her neck and hands. The victim's call for help was heard by three taxi drivers, who pulled the suspect away. The attacked woman reported the incident to the police station.
On August 4, the suspect went to the victim's workplace and first verbally attacked her, using threatening and insulting words. After he left, he continued to threaten her over the phone that if she did not agree to settle down, he would enter her parents' apartment and kill them all. Worried about the safety of her children and her parents, the victim reported the incident to the police station. In the afternoon, the suspect took the minor daughter from kindergarten and went to the apartment of the victim's parents. When the child entered the home, the victim's father asked the suspect to leave, but he began aggressively banging on the front door and trying to force his way in. The victim and her father tried to keep the door closed, and from the pushing they suffered physical injuries - scratches and cuts. After they managed to lock the door, the suspect, ignoring the fact that the minor children were again present, continued to threaten to kill them and behave aggressively. The victims called the police, who found the suspect in front of the apartment and detained him.
The competent public prosecutor assessed that there are circumstances that indicate that the suspect could be put on the run, so he submitted a proposal to the Basic Criminal Court of Skopje for the determination of a measure of detention.
