China's approach to the war in Ukraine is decisive for relations with the EU
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said today that China's attitude towards the war in Ukraine will be a "decisive factor for EU-China relations".
China, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, has a responsibility to play a constructive role in promoting peace based on the territorial integrity of Ukraine, with the withdrawal of Russian forces, the EC president said.
"Any peace plan that consolidates Russian annexations is simply not a sustainable plan," Von der Leyen said in a speech in Brussels before leaving for Beijing, British media reported.
The head of the EC said that "the decisive factor for the continuation of relations between the EU and China will be how China continues to behave towards Putin's war".
