Prince William on Kate Middleton and King Charles' cancer: "This has been the worst year of my life, it's been really horrible"
Britain's Prince William is proud of his wife Catherine and to his father, king charles the third, as they handle their health battles with dignity and courage, reports "Daily Mail".
The prince admitted that the past few months have been "brutal" for him and that this has been the hardest year of his life.
"Honestly?" It was really horrible. This is probably the hardest year of my life. We try to get through everything and keep everything on track. It's really hard. But I'm very proud of my wife and my father for everything we've been through. From a personal, family point of view - it was brutal," William said, adding that his wife is fine.
As is known to the world public, Princess Catherine is facing an undetected form of cancer, which was diagnosed in February of this year, and since then she has been undergoing preventive chemotherapy. As for King Charles, he was diagnosed with cancer after routine prostate surgery.
The prince admitted he doesn't necessarily like the extra responsibility that comes with his role as Prince of Wales, but appreciates the time and freedom he has to build major global initiatives such as the Earthshot Prize.
"It is very important with my role, and with my platform, to do something good. To help people's lives and do something that has real meaning," said the prince.
The "Green Oscars", as the media call the award ceremony, arose out of the prince's frustration with global pessimism regarding climate change and the environmental crisis. Each year, for a decade, five winners will receive £1 million in prize money and mentoring to take their ideas forward. This year, the participants prepared a variety of projects, from sneakers made of biodegradable material to a new technology that captures waste heat and turns it into electricity.
The award ceremony took place in Africa, a continent with which the prince has a special relationship because he retired there after the death of his mother, but it was also where he proposed to his wife Catherine. The African choir at the opening of the ceremony sang "Circle of life" from the animated film "The Lion King", which, as he himself admitted, was particularly emotional for the prince.
