Eleven Kyrgyz soldiers were wounded in the shooting of border with Tajikistan, said the Ministry of Health of that country.

Clashes on the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan lasted for several hours, and the truce was reached after negotiations between the representatives of the two countries, last night around midnight Moscow time.

Tajikistan said today that two of its citizens had been killed and 10 wounded during overnight clashes on the disputed border with Kyrgyzstan, where a ceasefire has now been established.

"As a result of the recent conflict," 10 people were injured on the Tajik side, including six soldiers and four civilians, "the Tajik National Security Committee said in a statement.

The statement added that the two dead were a man born in 1986 "killed by a mortar shell fired by Kyrgyz soldiers in his yard" and an ambulance driver born in 1964.

Earlier, the Kyrgyz border guard said the Tajik side had used mortars, and the conflict erupted after Tajiks blocked the road between Batken provincial center and the Kyrgyz village of Isfan.

Border guards on both sides managed to unblock the road, but then there was an exchange of fire. The Kyrgyz-Tajik border occasionally becomes a conflict zone due to unbounded sections.
