Extremist leader killed in US attack in Syria

A leader of an al-Qaeda-linked extremist group has been killed in a US airstrike in Idlib in northwestern Syria, US officials and a Syrian NGO have said.

The US Central Command said yesterday that Abu Hamza al-Yemen, the leader of the Huras al-Din group, had been killed.

U.S. officials have a high level of belief that an extremist leader was killed in a drone strike, the official said, according to CNN.

According to the US Central Command, "the elimination of a high-ranking leader will undermine al-Qaeda's ability to carry out attacks on US citizens, our partners and innocent civilians around the world."
