The president of the parliamentary group of SYRIZA believes that the policy of cooperation with North Macedonia is frozen
The views that Prespa was a great achievement of the Greek foreign policy, but also that the activities during the SYRIZA government are now frozen, and "frozen in favor of the dogma of immobility", were expressed by the president of the SYRIZA parliamentary group, Nikos Pappas, in response to a journalistic question. a question about the Agreement from Prespa at the press conference within the International Fair in Thessaloniki, reported the MIA correspondent from Athens.
Pappas indicated that the Agreement came about because of the political change in Greece in 2015, but also as a "result of the vision" of the then Greek government for "the country to be a protagonist in the region".
With our government, we not only solved a big issue that right-wing hypocrisy never allowed to be solved, but we made the country a protagonist in the Balkans and in the wider region. Trilateral alliances have strengthened. Alexis Tsipras' visits to the Balkans and his initiatives were countless. I have not participated in a bigger trade forum than the one that took place in North Macedonia. Hundreds of Greek and North Macedonian businesses met and showed the possibilities, and unfortunately this policy froze and froze in favor of the dogma of immobility. But you know, when you are immobile, the world around you doesn't stop moving and especially if you have a noisy neighbor to the east, an aggressive and revisionist force in terms of international law, this is a burden on national interests, said the president of the parliamentary group of SYRIZA.
In addition, he indicated that "it is necessary for Greece to return to an energetic multidimensional foreign policy", because it is a strong country and "it cannot act as if it is scared, because it has a Government which, with ideological brakes, inflexibility and blackmailing members, does not implement what it it goes without saying."
At the International Fair, traditionally every year, on the first weekend, the speech and press conference of the Prime Minister of Greece is held, and on the last weekend, just before the closing, the press conference of the leader of the main opposition, however, due to the developments in SYRIZA and the vote of no confidence in Stefanos Kaselakis, the opposition party in Thessaloniki is represented by the president of the parliamentary group.
Nikos Pappas answered more than 40 questions from journalists at the press conference that lasted a little over two hours, and the emphasis was on the internal political developments in SYRIZA in the run-up to the elections for a new president at the end of November
