The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, will pay an official visit to Montenegro on July 2 and 3, at the invitation of the President of the country, Jakov Milatović.

"This visit comes on the eve of the upcoming Intergovernmental Conference, in order to emphasize the EU perspective of Montenegro, the progress so far on the European path and the receipt of the IBAR (Report on the fulfillment of temporary benchmarks), as well as the continuation of the reform process. This is the second visit of high-ranking EU officials since Jakov Milatović assumed the post of President of Montenegro. "Before that, the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, visited Montenegro in October 2023," the announcement reads.

The President's Office points out that Charles Michel's visit represents an important step in strengthening relations between Montenegro and the European Union on a political and economic level and further confirms the country's determination to move more decisively towards full membership in the EU.
