The President of the Turkish Election Commission: The results tonight can be known earlier than in the first round

The President of the Supreme Election Commission of Turkey, Ahmet Yener, expressed his wish that the second round of the presidential elections would be beneficial for the state and the Turkish people, reports Anatolia.

Yener voted at a polling station in a school in Ankara and then addressed reporters. Citizens, as he said, showed great interest in the elections in the country and abroad in the second and first rounds. - I want the results of the elections to benefit the Turkish people, Turkish democracy, political parties and presidential candidates. The elections are taking place without any problems so far, Yener said.

When asked when the election results could be announced after the second round of the presidential election, Yener said that the results could be known earlier compared to the first round.

Polling stations in Turkey opened at 08:00 local time (7:00 CET) this morning, kicking off voting in the second round of the country's presidential election.

Turkey's more than 64 million eligible voters are choosing between incumbent President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and opposition coalition candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu in the second round. In the second round of the elections, an additional 47.523 voters, who have turned 18 in the meantime, will have the right to vote.

In the first round of elections held on May 14, Erdogan won 49,5 percent of the vote, while Turkish opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu garnered 44,89 percent of the vote.
