Verdict for "TNT": For Gruevski nine years, and for Janakieski three years in prison
The council of The criminal court in Skopje today in the case "TNTCondemned the accused former prime minister Nikola Gruevski to nine years, and the former Minister of Transport Mile Janakieski to three years in prison.
The defendant Elisaveta Najdovska was sentenced to four years in prison, and Toni Trajkovski, former mayor of the municipality of Gazi Baba, received the same amount.
They were tried for the crime of "abuse of official position and authority". According to the indictment, the convicts now in 2011 committed a crime of political hatred by demolishing the "Cosmos" complex of Fiat Canoski.
In their closing remarks, Janakieski and Trajkovski stated that they had not committed a crime during the demolition of "Kosmos" and that they hoped for an acquittal.
- If I get the sixth conviction, will anything change in society? My answer is that nothing will improve, except that Canoski will earn from the state budget, giving an incentive to others to cover up their illegal activities through political solutions using the judicial authorities - said Janakieski.
Public Prosecutor Burim Rustemi, meanwhile, asked the court to find the defendants guilty and sentence them accordingly. He claims that during the trial it was proven with certainty that the defendants committed the acts they are charged with and that the defendant Nikola Gruevski abused his position and influence as Prime Minister to fulfill his desire to demolish the Cosmos complex to his political opponent Fiat Canovski and inflict financial damage on him.
