The Swedish Foreign Minister, Ann Linde today signed the application to join NATO. As the Russian invasion of Ukraine provokes a radical development in European security and geopolitics, the move marks a formal step by Stockholm to join a US-led military alliance, ending decades of military neutrality.
The Swedish Foreign Minister said that "the feeling is very good and very serious".
- It seems that we have come to a conclusion that is best for Sweden. We do not know how long it will take, but we think it can take up to a year. Now, this week, the application will be submitted, together with Finland, and then it should be processed by NATO, Linde added.
