Constantly receives requests for financial assistance: An Indian man has a lottery win
A lottery winner in India has announced that he and his family will have to move out of their home because he can no longer fend off the countless requests for financial assistance that have made him regret winning the prize.
The driver Anop from the southern federal state of Kerala won 250 million rupees, about three million euros, in the state lottery this month, the BBC reports.
A week later, he posted a video asking strangers to stop harassing him and his family.
"It would have been better if I had not won this prize," says the Indian.
Anop in a statement to the media he pointed out that he is thinking about moving to avoid the huge public attention.
He made headlines when he won the prize, the biggest ever offered in the lottery in that southern Indian state.
Apon bought the lucky lottery ticket on September 18, the day before he left for Malaysia for work, after taking the payment money from his son's savings bank.
But after the news of his winnings was announced, the family attracted public attention.
"I was overjoyed when I won." There were many people and cameras in the house and we were happy," Anop pointed out and added that unfortunately the joy was short-lived because the situation soon got out of control.
"I can't leave the house, I can't go anywhere, my child is sick and I can't take him to the doctor," said the lotto winner
Anoop, who will get 150 million rupees after paying state taxes, says people come to his house every morning.
"I can tell everyone that I haven't received the money yet. "Nobody seems to understand me," he says.
The Indian man said he and his family moved in with relatives to avoid attention.
The Kerala state government said it was organizing a one-day financial management training program for Anoop to help him make better use of his money.
