Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa said today that he will send "Leopard 2" tanks to Ukraine, adding that his country is negotiating with Germany for the purchase of parts needed to repair the unusable Leopard tanks of the Portuguese Armed Forces.

Costa did not say how many tanks would be sent to the country, which has been facing an invasion from its neighbor Russia for a year.

- We are working on organizing the delivery. I know how many tanks we will send to Ukraine, but we will announce that information at the appropriate time, Costa told the Lusa agency during the trip to the Central African Republic, the Guardian reported.

Admiral Antonio Silva Ribeiro, commander of Portugal's armed forces, said last month that Portugal had 37 Leopard 2 tanks, after local media reported that most of them were defective.
