Portugal fines three companies for using national symbols to sell alcohol
Portugal's Directorate of Consumer Protection (DJC) announced on Wednesday that it intends to fine three companies for using the national flag to sell alcohol. Fines from 2.493,98 to 24.939,89 euros are provided for the violation of this part of the Portuguese law.
According to the results of the DOC investigation, three companies used social networks to advertise their products containing alcohol, using the national symbols of Portugal, i.e. the flag of this country. Also, this directorate requested to fill the "hole in the law" related to the ban on advertising of alcoholic beverages from 7.00 am to 22.30 pm.
According to the current Law, this ban applies only to "traditional" media, that is, television and radio. Since most companies are now actively engaged in marketing on social networks, the DJC requested a reaction from the legislative bodies to modernize this law, Klix.ba reported.
