Former Lebanese Prime Minister and Sunni leader Saad Hariri announced today that he is retiring from political life and will not run in the parliamentary elections scheduled for May.

He made this decision after distancing himself from him Saudi Arabia, the country that supported this 51-year-old politician, and the country where the Hariri family got rich.

Saad Hariri has been Lebanon's prime minister three times in his political career and is now a member of parliament.

His late father, Rafik Hariri, one of Lebanon's most powerful and influential politicians since the end of the civil war, was assassinated in Beirut in a large truck bomb in 2005.

The UN tribunal 15 years later convicted a member of the extremist Hezbollah of involvement in the assassination of Rafik Hariri. Hezbollah has denied the allegations.

Saad Hariri believes that Lebanon has no chance for a positive future due to Iran's growing influence in the country, as well as due to internal and sectarian divisions and a weakened state.

He acknowledged that their numbers were not enough to defeat Lebanon's worst economic crisis in modern times, but said that he had done everything in his power to avoid a civil war in Lebanon, apparently alluding to the formation of a government that includes Hezbollah. .

Hariri announced that members of his political group Movement for the Future would not run in the next parliamentary elections, but vowed to continue helping those in need.

Saad Hariri is the most powerful Sunni Muslim politician in Lebanon since 2005, but was forced to resign as prime minister in October 2019, following widespread protests across the country against the ruling class.
