A former national team basketball player was bitten by a stray dog while walking with her baby in Karpoš
The former basketball player of the Macedonian national team, Sandra Lazarevska, was the target of a homeless dog on Wednesday while walking in Karposh, Skopje, together with her baby. As Lazarevska wrote on Facebook, she was bitten on the stomach, and fortunately the baby was not delivered.
"Bulevar 8 September, Wednesday 04.09...21:15-20 On a walk with the baby who is less than 40 days old, on a path intended for pedestrians, where there is NO lighting at all. I see a picture in front of me of a running dog and I wonder if it is going towards me or something else. Neither 2 nor 3, in a second he jumps at me, bites me on the stomach and pushes me to the ground. I'm falling. As I fall, the stroller my son is in also falls, LUCKILY he falls from the stroller onto soft dry grass, I crawl on the grass to catch him so that he doesn't get hurt, I take him in my arms and LUCKILY somehow nothing happened to him. Two girls behind me heard my screams and ran to help me... And for how long with these dogs let loose like in the wild, and in the capital, without any serious measures? It's over! ", wrote Lazarevska.
The basketball player called on the Public Enterprise "Lajka", the Municipality of Karposh, and the City of Skopje to deal with the large number of street dogs in the capital.
Stray dogs have been a big problem in Skopje for years. Most often they are where there is more traffic of people, near shops, markets. As can be seen in the bulletins of the Ministry of the Interior, there are at least three reports of bites from stray dogs every day, the largest number of cases are in Skopje. The number of "victims" is higher, but still not everyone decides to report to the police.
