The former deputy of the right-wing HDZ, winner of an Olympic medal in boxing and ex-president of the Siget auto club - Damir Shkaro, was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for rape and sexual harassment of an employee of the auto club, Croatian media reported.

In addition to the prison sentence, Shkaro will also have to pay 3.787 euros for court costs and expert opinions, and the time spent in detention from the beginning of September to the end of October 2019 is also included in the sentence.

Skaro has pleaded not guilty to the charges after being released from pre-trial detention on October 24, 2019. His detention was ordered due to the risk of influencing witnesses and repeating the crime.

He was arrested in September of that year at the border crossing with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
