The website of the British royal family has crashed due to a cyber attack

The website of the British royal family was temporarily unavailable due to a cyber attack that occurred yesterday, DPA reported.

The British royal family's online presence has been the target of a denial-of-service attack in an attempt to overwhelm the website.

The attack, which took place in the morning, was successfully repelled by IT experts, Buckingham Palace sources told dpa, and the royal.uk website was back online by early afternoon.

According to the sources, the website and its content did not fall under the control of the attackers at any point. It was initially unclear who might be behind the cyber attack.
