Due to violence in schools, educators in Serbia are suspending classes, the state will soon introduce new measures

After a series of incidents and cases of peer violence and violence against school employees in Serbia, today the educators announced the suspension of classes on December 1, and the Minister of Education Branko Ružić announced new measures against violence until December 20.

A working group will gather all relevant actors: eminent experts in the fight against violence, psychologists and pedagogues with many years of work experience in school and clinical practice, representatives of the relevant Ministry, educational unions, parents' associations, said Ružić and added that December 20 is the deadline. deadline to determine the shortcomings and propose changes in the current practice to make the system more efficient.

He stated that "the most important thing is not to deal with punishments and stricter sanctions, but with the prevention of violence" and added that teachers do the most noble work, because they have dedicated their lives to the education of children and that they have empathy, responsibility and enthusiasm.

On December 1, there will be no classes in schools, because it is a form of resistance to everything that is happening in Serbia - complete lack of interest in education. This is our rebellion and this is our resistance, there will be no classes on December 1, announced today the president of the Union of Education Workers of Serbia (USPRS), Jasna Jankovic, at the conference "Stop violence in schools" in front of the Government in Belgrade.

She warned that zero tolerance for violence must be introduced. "Otherwise, no stone will be left unturned in the educational institutions, general fights will begin between students, teachers and parents, and there will be no more education here," said Jankovic.

The vice-president of USPRS, Zvonimir Jovic, emphasized that with the strike they will demand that the education workers be granted the status of officials.

That status brings greater protection to school employees from attacks, either on children or by parents and guardians, Jovic said.

Only during this month there was information about a series of attacks by students on teachers and classmates, such as the harassment of the teacher at the Technical School in Trstenik, the attack by peers on 13-year-old N.K. from Subotica who had his spleen removed, the attack on a seventh grade student by seven older students in Novi Sad, more similar cases in Vranje and other cities.
