Due to the movie "Barbie" there was a global shortage of pink color
The film about one of the most famous dolls "Barbie", directed by Greta Gervig, will premiere on July 21. In the interview for "Architectural Digest", Gerwig and the scenography Sarah Greenwood they talked about building "Barbie Land".
Namely, the director Gerwig refused to use computer-generated images for the scenes in the film, so she insisted that the backgrounds be hand-painted. She believed that the scenography should be tactile and realistic, considering that it is a movie with dolls. But this decision of hers led to a global shortage of pink.
"The world has run out of pink," she said in the interview.
The specific shade the team used was a fluorescent pink from the company Roscoe, which specializes in highly pigmented paints. The vice president of marketing at "Rosco", Lauren Proud, explained that there was already a shortage of pink, due to previous supply disruptions, but confirmed that after the film, the stock was completely used up.
The complete scenery of "Barbieland" is set in the studio Warner Bros. outside of London, and the inspiration for its construction was the homes in Palm Springs.
By the way, Greenwood and Spencer are already known for creating enchanting and extraordinary sets, working together on films such as "Anna Karenina", "Pride and Prejudice" and "Beauty and the Beast".
