Help for the fires near Athens will also be sent by Serbia, Romania and Turkey
After France, the Czech Republic and Italy, Serbia, Romania and Turkey responded positively to Greece's request for help in extinguishing the fires in the Attica area through the European Civil Protection Mechanism, which sent firefighting forces, the MIA correspondent from Athens reported.
The Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection of Greece announced tonight that "the number of countries responding to the Greek request through the European Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) to provide assistance in dealing with the forest fires in Attica is increasing."
More specifically, air assets are being sent by: Turkey, two "Tractor" type firefighting aircraft and Serbia, one "Kamov" type helicopter, while ground forces will arrive from France (200 people, with 28 tanks), from Romania, which is sending 44 people with four tankers, as well as 35 people with ten vehicles from Serbia.
The fire situation in the northeastern part of the Attica district, the wider Athens region, remains critical, and the flames, which are spreading rapidly due to the wind, have not yet been brought under control.
