A Polish man attacked a teenage girl with an ax in a German train, the girl was seriously injured

A XNUMX-year-old girl was seriously injured today after she was attacked on the train by a thug, who was carrying an object similar to an axe, after he had previously threatened other passengers as well, the media reports.
The 37-year-old suspect boarded a train traveling between the eastern German cities of Frankfurt am Oder and Cottbus in the town of Guben, near the border with Poland.
The man, whom police identified as a Polish national, ran through several carriages before police were alerted to the incident. He damaged parts of the interior and destroyed screens.
Then he attacked a 17-year-old girl with an object resembling an ax and injured her in the head, the local police spokesman said. Police officers boarded the train, managed to overpower him and take away his cold weapon. The victim was transferred to the hospital, but his life is not in danger, according to the police.
The suspect is in custody. He was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The police have not yet released more details about the incident, but said that at the moment there are no indications that the crime was religiously or politically motivated.
The media recall the incident from February this year when a Palestinian stabbed several passengers on a train on the route between the northern cities of Kiel and Hamburg. Then two people, aged 16 and 19, were killed, and seven others were wounded. The attacker, who was previously known to the police, was released from custody shortly before the incident.
