The commission for the review of the procedures for issuing weapons permits found that more than 5.000 cases were not processed, and some were decided against the law. Because of this, the Internal Control Department proposed disciplinary procedures, including dismissals, for about 15 high-ranking police officials from the previous government, informed the Minister of Internal Affairs, Panče Toškovski.
He said in an interview for "Sitel" that in the past weapons were given to people who did not have the right to possess them, while others, who had the right, failed to complete the procedure. He also announced the digitization of the process for issuing such permits.
"According to the direction of the public prosecutor, criminal charges will be filed against those for whom elements of a criminal offense are determined. "These people have been fired, and criminal proceedings will follow," Toshkovski said.
The minister also announced a new law on the possession of weapons, harmonized with the EU legislation, which will be based on a thorough analysis and systemic solutions in the interest of the citizens.
In response to the question about security in the country, Toshkovski assured that the Ministry of Internal Affairs and other institutions are ready to deal with all potential security threats.
