The majority of recipients of state aid in Germany are foreigners, with Ukrainians leading the way

Most of the citizens who receive financial support from the state in Germany are of foreign origin, and the most numerous of them are citizens of Ukraine. Compared to the rest of Europe, they receive the most money in Germany, DV's analysis shows, reports H1.

Critics of immigration have claimed this until now, and now official statistics have been leaked to the public: the majority of citizens who receive state support for citizens (the so-called Burgergeld) are of foreign origin. At the federal level, the participation of citizens of migrant origin among the recipients of this type of assistance is 63,1 percent. In the three federal states, the share of foreigners among aid recipients is over 70 percent, and the federal state of Hesse leads with 76,4 percent, followed by Baden-Württemberg with 74,1 percent and Hamburg with 72,8 percent.

This data comes from the Federal Employment Office and was published by all major media during the holiday weekend in Germany. At the same time, it should be noted that the authorities treat as persons of migrant origin those citizens who were not born in Germany, but also those whose at least one parent was not born as a German citizen. Also, the number of people with a migrant background has increased from 20 to 29 percent since 2013. In 2013, 43 percent of the recipients of the aid, then called unemployment benefit II, were of migrant origin. EU citizens are only entitled to state aid after five years of residence in Germany.
