Following the request submitted by the opposition SYRIZA, This afternoon, the three-day debate on the vote of no confidence in the Government starts in the Greek Parliament, and the voting will take place on Sunday evening, MIA correspondent from Athens reported.

A vote of no confidence in the government requires a 151-member majority out of a total of 300 in the Greek parliament, and the New Democracy government currently has 157 deputies, six more than the minimum parliamentary majority threshold.

According to the Greek Constitution and the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament, the debate lasts for three days, ends at midnight on the third day at the latest, and in case of rejection and non-vote of no confidence, it is not allowed to be resubmitted in the next six months.

The leader of the Greek opposition party SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras, during yesterday's debate in the Parliament on the law from the Ministry of Development, demanded an extraordinary speech, sent sharp criticisms and accusations to the Government for dealing with the snowstorm and submitted a motion of no confidence. "The worst government in the country since the fall of the junta."

- This Government should leave as soon as possible, the sooner the better. "Before it is too late for society, for the country, for democracy," said the SYRIZA leader.

Greek government spokesman Yannis Ikonomou commented that Tsipras's move was intended to give the impression "seeing his political influence diminish and his party's political future uncertain".

"Citizens will have the opportunity to hear about a range of issues that affect them, which affect their lives, and to draw their own conclusions," Ikonomu said of the debate in parliament.

The leader of the Movement for Change - PASOK party, Nikos Androulakis in an interview with "Open" television, said last night that they as a party will not give any support to the Government, but also stressed that with 100 deaths a day from Covid, he believes that election time.

The last time a no-confidence motion was submitted by SYRIZA was in October 2020, and it referred to the Minister of Finance, Christos Stajkouras.

New Democracy, as the opposition, a few days before the signing of the Prespa Agreement in June 2018, submitted a motion of no confidence in the then Government of SYRIZA and Alexis Tsipras.
