With the announcement of the names of the medicine laureates, the annual season of Nobel Prize winners begins tomorrow. Traditionally, the peace and literature prizes attract the most attention.

According to tradition, the name of the winner of the Nobel Prize in Medicine will be announced tomorrow, on Tuesday for physics, on Wednesday for chemistry, on Thursday for literature and on Friday for peace. Next Monday, the name of the winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics will be announced.

So far, only two winners have refused the Nobel Prize, and that was for literature. This was done by Boris Pasternak in 1958 under the pressure of the Soviet authorities, while Jean-Paul Sartre, who has refused all the awards he received, refused the Nobel Prize in 1964.

The Nobel Prizes exist thanks to the Swedish scientist and industrialist Alfred Nobel, the inventor of dynamite, who wanted money to be allocated each year from his fund to contribute to humanity.

In Paris in 1895, a year before his death, Nobel included in his will the desire to establish the Nobel Fund from which prizes will be awarded to the most deserving. Nobel (1833-1896) designated the institutions that would award the prizes each year, including the Swedish Academy of Literature, the Karolinska Institute of Medicine, the Royal Swedish Academy of Physics and Chemistry, and the Peace Committee, which was specially chosen by the Norwegian Parliament .

On the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the existence of the Central Bank of Sweden in 1969, it established the Nobel Prize for Economics.

The Nobel Prize consists of a gold medal, a diploma and a check of nine million crowns (about one million euros), and the monetary amount of the prize is divided if there are several laureates in one discipline.

The awarding of the Nobel Prizes is traditionally held on December 10, the day of Alfred Nobel's death.
