Princess Elisabeth von Bismarck has died

The Princess Elizabeth von Bismarck, wife of German Prince Ferdinand von Bismarck, died Sunday night at the age of 84, her family said yesterday.

Born Countess Elisabeth Lippens, she is from Belgium, and in 1960 she married Prince Ferdinand (1930 – 2019). He, in turn, is the great-grandson of Prince Otto von Bismarck, the "iron chancellor" of Germany from 1871 to 1890. The Countess and the Count have four children – Karl-Eduard, Gottfried, Gregor and Vanessa.

Princess Elisabeth's great love was the "Butterfly Garden" at Bismarck's historic estate at Friedrichsruhe in northern Germany. For decades Elisabeth von Bismarck took care of the tropical conservatory consisting of about 800 butterflies of 40 different species.
