One of the best basketball players in the former Yugoslavia, Jana Lelas, has died

One of the best basketball players in SFR Yugoslavia in the 1980s, died today at the age of 51, Croatian media report.

Lelas started his career in Split, for a long time he was for the national team of the former SFR Yugoslavia as well as for Croatia, and the biggest success in his career is the silver medal at the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988. Part of that national team was the Macedonian basketball legend Stojna Vangelovska.
Three years later, he won a silver medal at the European Championships in Israel.

Besides Split, Jana Lelas also played for Jezice, Messina, Strasbourg, Zaragoza, and ended her career in 2009 in the Croatian team.

Since 2016, he has run the private basketball club, KAZL (Basketball Academy Jana Lelas), together with her husband Vjekoslav Lokica, who is a football coach.
