You will get from Brussels to Paris faster than from Veles to Skopje

On the railway from Veles to Skopje, individual sleepers are changed and the track is mechanically adjusted, and passengers travel for about two hours.

A week has passed since train drivers were notified that they must not drive more than 20 kilometers per hour on the railway from Veles to the entrance of Skopje. At this speed, this train "wobbles" along the tracks for about two hours. And this is how it will be until the reconstruction of this section is finished.

- A telegram has been issued for the reduced speed of movement of trains on the Veles - Skopje route, because the employees of the Skopje railway maintenance department of JP ŽRSM Infrastructure are carrying out works on the reconstruction of that section. Individual changes of thresholds and mechanical regulation of the track are carried out. All available human resources from the Department of Railway Maintenance are involved in the reconstruction works - stated for "Sloboden Pechat" from PE "Railways of North Macedonia - Infrastructure".

While the thresholds are changing, the citizens who travel on this road are getting nervous.

- I work in Skopje and I come to the office almost every day. Lucky that I have the opportunity to work from home one day. Otherwise, it takes me two whole hours to come from Veles. Imagine two hours to Skopje and two hours back, for cities that are sixty kilometers apart from each other - says a woman from Veles who addressed our Editorial Office.

And according to the regular schedule, the train took almost an hour to arrive, but commuters say that there were frequent delays. As an illustration, the direct train from Brussels to Paris will cover 260 kilometers in less than an hour and a half.

From Railways of RSM - Transport they say that with the new trains they develop speeds of 80 and even 100 kilometers per hour. But they remind that on the road from Veles to Skopje there are many railway stations in populated areas, such as Drachevo, Jane Sandanski, Zelenikovo...

Fast trains cannot run on our tracks, even if we wanted to. When the first Chinese train arrived in Macedonia in 2016, announced as ultra-modern and capable of driving 160 kilometers per hour, the comments of the experts were that badiala is the speed that should not be used on our railways.

There are 837 employees in JP ŽRSM - Infrastructure, and yet in the past years we have witnessed the slow process of railway reconstruction. According to the educational structure, according to the official report of the public company, on 31.12.20322 there were 73 unqualified workers, 22 semi-qualified, 138 qualified and 370 with secondary school, and the rest are highly educated. 282 workers work on railway maintenance. The average net salary in the last quarter of last year in Infrastructure was MKD 28.793.

The section Bogomila - Gostirazni is also being intervened

From Monday, the employees of the Veles Railway Maintenance Department will start interventions on the Bogomila - Gostirazni section, i.e. changing sleepers and mechanical regulation of the track.

"These things will not affect the traffic of the trains on the Bitola - Skopje railway," said the "Railways of North Macedonia - Infrastructure" PE.
