The Italian government today declared a state of emergency on the island of Ischia, which yesterday was hit by a large landslide in which one person died, and at least ten are missing.

- The first package of emergency financial aid in the amount of 2 million euros was awarded at the extraordinary session of the cabinet, which is called for the introduction of a state of emergency, explained the Minister of Civil Protection, Nelo Muzumechi.

Casamicola Terme, a winter spa resort of 8.000 residents on the island of Ischia not far from Capri, was hit by an earthquake in 2017 that killed two people. At the end of the 19th century, the city was completely destroyed by a much stronger earthquake.

More than 200 members of the civil defense and law enforcement agencies are still searching for the dozen missing, and hundreds of volunteers continue to clear the streets.
