After five years, the account of the Municipality of Karposh was unblocked, the debt reduced by 4 million euros
On the On August 10, the account of the Municipality of Karposh was unblocked, after a five-year blockade. According to the mayor Stevcho Jakimovski in nine months, since he has been mayor, everything has been paid 154 denars for blockades with court rulings and almost 2 million euros in other debts. Currently, as he said, the Municipality still owes about 100 million denars together with VAT, i.e. about 1,5 million euros.
From 5,4 million euros when I came to the head of the municipality, we now have about 1,5 left. So we have returned 4 million, the account is unblocked. We achieved this with an extremely valuable work, above all work of increasing revenues. I have always argued that income is key – if you increase your income, if you have a large income, expenses are easily covered. In 2016, we had 11,5 million euros in revenue, in 2017, 9 million euros in revenue, but during the time of the previous management, we fell to 5 million and 200-300 thousand euros. That is the key why the municipality entered such a stagnant position, i.e. unable to pay the debts - Jakimovski said in his address on Facebook today.
He emphasized that in addition to working to increase income, they saved as much as possible on electricity, an example that, according to him, is being followed by other cities in Europe, such as Cologne, where the street lighting will be turned off after 11 o'clock.
We haven't spent a single penny on the national team, I don't use a company car, and wherever we could save, we saved. The fruit of all that work is that the municipality is not at the required minimum, that it does not work with a blocked account. With this unblocking, I expect that by the new year we will reduce the debts to somewhere between 500-600 euros, which means we will have more money for roofs, for the young, for elevators, facades and finally funds will be provided for the completion of the municipal building, for social programs and the municipality will function as it deserves, as a powerful and strong Municipality of Karposh - claims Jakimovski.
