Former Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev in an interview for BTV emphasized that Serbia will not allow the Republic of North Macedonia to go down the road to EU integration before Serbia itself sorts out its own geopolitical position, which according to him is currently torn between Russia and the European Union.

"Serbia will do everything possible to thwart the negotiation process for the entry of the Republic of North Macedonia into the European Union before doing so itself. And we see that Serbia itself is still swaying between the orbit of Russia and Europe," said Rosen Plevneliev.

According to him, the government in North Macedonia is hanging on by a thread and its situation is not easy at all. Therefore, the Bulgarian position should be to help the European integration of the RSM.

"We must have a very balanced policy, we ourselves in Bulgaria must be careful not to carry out such provocations. We must behave like adults, we must know that it is a difficult and difficult battle to renounce the fascist Tito-Stalinist past. Unfortunately, today's elites in North Macedonia are still suffering from this," explained Plevneliev, who was the president of Bulgaria from 2012 to 2017.
