Trump's plan for Ukraine
US President-elect Donald Trump's plan to resolve the conflict in Ukraine includes Kiev's rejection of NATO membership and territorial concessions in favor of Russia, US media reported, citing sources close to Trump and an analysis of his advisers' proposals.
- Donald Trump's advisers are publicly and privately discussing proposals to end the conflict in Ukraine, according to which a significant part of the territory would be transferred to Russia in the foreseeable future. The proposals of the three top advisers have some common features, including removing the issue of Ukraine's entry into NATO, the statement said.
Trump has yet to assemble a large task force to draft a peace plan. Sources say the final deal will likely depend on what Trump, Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin decide.
Trump repeatedly promised during his election campaign that he would end the nearly three-year conflict within 24 hours of his inauguration on January 20, but has yet to say how.
Analysts and former national security officials express serious doubts that Trump can follow through on such a promise given the complexity of the conflict. Taken together, however, the statements by his advisers indicate the potential contours of Trump's peace plan.
