Chicken fillet in BIH is more expensive than beef!
A kilogram of chicken fillet in butcher shops and markets across Bosnia and Herzegovina reached a price of up to 16 marks (8,18 euros) per kilogram, depending on the market. Velibor Popovic, president of the Management Board of the Poultry Association of Republika Srpska and director of "Perutnina Ptuj" from Srpč, in an interview with "Nezavisne Novine" points out that the prices of chicken have been stable for a long time, writes Business Journal.
"The wholesale price of chicken fillet ranges from 11 to 11,50 km including VAT," says Popovic.
He points out that the company has no problems with the lack of this meat and that this year they have a 15 percent higher production than last year.
"The prices will remain at the current level because nothing significant is happening on the raw material market," Popovic said, adding that the current chicken prices should remain at this level until the end of the year and that no increase is expected.
"But as for next year's prices, they will depend on the soybean and corn harvests, so the last quarter of this year is preparation for next year." "Depending on the agricultural crops and grain yields, we can plan for next year," Popovic said.
Edin Jabandzic, chairman of the Coordinating Committee of Poultry Breeders of Bosnia and Herzegovina, said it is difficult to predict what will happen next. The year was difficult because, according to him, cereal crops failed in yield by almost 50 percent. Murisa Marić, executive director of the Don Prijedor Consumer Protection Association, said that chicken used to be the cheapest meat available to all consumers.
"Today, a kilogram of fillet is more expensive than a kilogram of veal," Maric said, adding that the price of this meat has risen to the point that it turns out that chicken production is the most expensive.
