Petrovska from Brussels: North Macedonia is an exporter of security and stability in the region and in Europe

The contribution of North Macedonia to regional and global security and the intensification of defense cooperation with the EU was the topic of the meeting of the Minister of Defense Slavjanka Petrovska with the Chairman of the Military Committee of the Union, General Robert Brieger in Brussels.

- We can really be proud of what we have achieved. From an importer of security, North Macedonia has positioned itself as a pillar of regional security and stability. Confirmation of that is our participation in the EU operation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, ALTEA since 2006, as well as our participation in the Union battle groups, Petrovska said at the meeting.

As the Ministry of Defense announced, she informed that so far 363 army personnel were part of ALTEA, while 6 army officers participated in the EU mission in the Central African Republic.

Also, Petrovska expressed satisfaction with the strong intensity of the defense cooperation between the country and the EU and thanked for the European support of the process of modernization and equipping of the Army with nine million euros provided through the European Peace Fund.

- The fact that the European Peace Fund showed interest in supporting the equipping and modernization of the Army with 9 million euros, shows that the interest in even closer relations between North Macedonia and the Union is great. Our country has started the accession process, our society is based on modern European values and we belong to Europe, said Petrovska.

General Brieger, on the other hand, expressed satisfaction that both sides are ambitious in their intention to strengthen defense cooperation and thanked for the long-term participation of the members of the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia in missions and operations of the Union.

By the way, from today, Petrovska is on a several-day working visit to Brussels, within the framework of which, at the invitation of the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign and Security Policy, Josep Borel, she will participate and address the first Schuman Security and Defense Forum, and there will also be several separate meetings with high political and military representatives of NATO and the European Union.
