Petkov: Schengen entry remains a strategic goal for Bulgaria

The Bulgarian Prime Minister, Kiril Petkov, held a series of working meetings in Brussels today, including with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metzola, the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Layen, said the press center of the Bulgarian Government.

According to the MIA correspondent from Sofia, Petkov also attended the ceremony on the occasion of the International Day of Remembrance of the Holocaust victims in the European Parliament.

Petkov congratulated Roberta Metzola on her election as President of the EP and reiterated her desire for close and fruitful cooperation. The two discussed the priorities of the Bulgarian Government and the challenges it faces in their implementation.

The Bulgarian Prime Minister stated that Bulgaria's accession to Schengen remains a strategic goal of Sofia and that he believes that the EP will continue to support it.

The President of the European Parliament, Charles Michel, congratulated the Bulgarian Prime Minister on the successful meetings with the Government of the Republic of Northern Macedonia, as well as on the measures for strengthening the capacities of Bulgaria, given the tensions between NATO and Russia. Michel assured the Prime Minister that the EU institutions are working to eliminate energy risks for member states, including Bulgaria.

Prime Minister Petkov was also received by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Layen, with whom they discussed the National Plan for Recovery and Sustainability, as well as the situation on the border with Ukraine.
