Petkov: It is very important to continue the constructive dialogue with Northern Macedonia
It is very important to continue the constructive dialogue with Northern Macedonia, said Bulgarian Prime Minister Kiril Petkov after the audience with Pope Francis in the Vatican, commenting on the upcoming meeting with Macedonian Prime Minister Dimitar Kovacevski.
According to Petkov, although there are many forces on both sides of the border that are trying to push this dialogue out of constitutiveness, it must be supported and continued, said the MIA correspondent from Sofia.
The lifting of the veto, Petkov said, can be discussed after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs presents the latest results of the progress in the dialogue with Northern Macedonia. The results should then be submitted to parliament, which will debate and make a clear position on what to do. the Bulgarian government.
- Everything else will be used for internal political purposes in Bulgaria. This is a national issue and there should be a broad consensus that will include both the ruling coalition and the opposition. For a national issue like this, which is so important, no one has the right to decide alone, said Petkov from Rome.
He asked again President Rumen Radev to convene the National Security Council for the negotiations with Northern Macedonia, because six months have passed since the last meeting.
- Since then many things have happened, there have been many conversations, there have been many different proposals, there have been many different world leaders who have expressed their views on this topic, there is a lot of information from the services. And there is no better format - to all sit at the table and talk about our position and what steps we should take together, Petkov said after the audience with Pope Francis.
Petkov said that they did not talk about RS Macedonia with the Pope.
