A record 83 percent of Ukrainians want their country to join the NATO alliance, the Kyiv Public Opinion Research Agency announced today, citing the results of a survey conducted after Kyiv applied for membership in the military bloc.

The Rating Group agency conducted a survey of a sample of 2.000 respondents on October 1 and 2, after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Friday that Ukraine is submitting an accelerated application for NATO membership.

This is the highest registered percentage of people in Ukraine who support NATO membership, Rating Group said.

Only four percent of respondents said they would vote against joining the bloc, and nine percent said they would not vote at all.

Last November, 55 percent of respondents supported joining the alliance, showing how much public opinion has changed on the issue since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine.
