Pentagon: US warship attacked in Red Sea

An American warship and several commercial vessels were attacked today in the Red Sea, the Pentagon said.

"We are aware of reports of attacks on the US warship USS Kearney and commercial vessels in the Red Sea and will provide information as it becomes available," the Pentagon said in a statement - without specifying where the attacks came from.

The Pentagon announced after earlier today and British A cargo ship was hit by a missile in the Red Sea off the coast of Yemen.

The British Maritime Safety Agency (MSMA) announced that it had received a report of drone activity "in the vicinity of Bab el Mandeb, from the direction of Yemen". Drone activity has been reported in the area that separates East Africa from the Arabian Peninsula.

Yemen's Houthi rebels have threatened to attack ships of Israel and its allies in the Red Sea in retaliation for the war against Palestinian Hamas in Gaza.
