The municipality of Ohrid will do everything, i.e. 99 percent of the Ohrid swimming marathon will take place, the mayor said today Kiril Pecakov after the coordination meeting with representatives of swimming clubs from the city.

He announced that the local government will do everything to take over the organization of the event from next year together with the swimming clubs.

- For this year, we will do everything that is and is not in our power to succeed in organizing the Ohrid Marathon. We are also calling the state, to which I received an immediate response from the Agency for Youth and Sports. The director should arrive and we should see how they would participate in the organization of the marathon. The way of managing the marathon years ago and the relationship with it, I see also in terms of attendance as it is being destroyed from year to year and we will have to consider all options as a local from next year, Petsakov pointed out.

He pointed out that the prize fund to the swimmers was not paid for the last two or three years, and the question arises whether it will be paid this year as well.

- I can't understand how we put ourselves in a situation to be left without a marathon, that is, to pass with a single announcement that it will not take place due to a blocked account, a situation that has been going on for many years. What have they been doing so far? In order to invite swimmers to the marathon, it is necessary to notify them a month in advance and confirm their arrival. We are now entering a time zone where I don't know how many positive responses we would get. The invitations have already been sent since yesterday, this morning we are starting to receive answers, to which I emphasize that the most important question is whether there will be a prize fund, because for the past two or three years the prizes for which they swam have not been paid, Petsakov said.
