In January, the market inspection issued fines totaling nine million denars

Last month, the State Market Inspectorate conducted more than 1.500 inspections on the entire territory of Macedonia, and for the identified violations, payment orders worth over 9 million denars were issued to subjects. Over 30 infringement payment orders have been issued under the Trade Act, over 100 under the Financial Discipline Act, over 40 in relation to the Anti-Smoking Act, over 10 for the Consumer Protection Act and over 20 infringement payment orders for offenses in in relation to the Law on performing catering activities.

The State Market Inspectorate carries out continuous inspections of both wholesalers and retailers in the area of ​​compliance with the Decision on special conditions for the trade of certain goods, that is, on limiting the margin. Any deviation from the highest established margin of 5 percent and 10 percent in retail trade and wholesale trade is sanctioned. According to this Decision on limiting the margin for basic food products, more than 300 inspections were carried out in January and no deviations from the foreseen margin limits were observed, the DPI states.

- As an institution, we will engage all available resources for ongoing action and implementation of legal regulations from which our competences derive. The market inspectorate constantly carries out inspections and acts in accordance with the laws, the annual and strategic work plan. In addition, in addition to regular controls, it also acts on reports submitted by citizens and responds to any issue related to our competences and scope of work, according to the announcement from the State Market Inspectorate.

DPI conducts inspections over the application of laws and regulations that cover the operations of legal and natural persons, but also the application of regulations in the field of prohibition and prevention of unregistered activity and imposes measures with the aim of removing the determined irregularities and consistent implementation of the laws. The purpose of supervision is to improve, control and strengthen the already existing economic system as well as maintaining a functional market aimed at protecting the rights of traders and consumers by marketing safe products.
