Paris and Berlin appeal: New elections in the north of Kosovo, with the participation of the Serbs
The French president Emmanuel Macron said in Moldova that Paris and Berlin appealed today to Serbia and Kosovo to organize new local elections as soon as possible in four municipalities with a Serbian majority in the north of Kosovo and that Serbian representatives participate in them.
After the joint meetings of Macron and the German chancellor Olaf Scholz with the presidents of Serbia and Kosovo, Aleksandar Vuќi. и Vjosa Osmani, the French leader said that the tensions in the north of Kosovo are the result of local elections, in which only three percent of registered voters turned out to vote on April 23.
"We have called on both sides to organize new elections as soon as possible in four municipalities (in the north of Kosovo) and to have Serbian representatives participate in them," Macron said after the European Political Summit.
After the summit in the Moldovan village of Bulboaca, Macron also said that the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, will talk to the leaders of Serbia and Kosovo about holding new elections.
Serb protests continued near the buildings of local governments in Leposavic, Zubin Potok and Zvecan today, for the fourth day in a row. Dozens of people from both sides were injured in clashes between citizens and soldiers of KFOR and members of the Kosovo Police on Monday.
