Pope Francis, following a doctor's order, canceled his trip to Dubai, where he was supposed to attend the COP28 climate conference of the United Nations, according to a doctor's order, the Vatican announced today.

The pope, who is recovering from the flu and pneumonia, was scheduled to address the conference on Saturday morning and open the religious pavilion on Sunday.

He announced the day before yesterday that he had pneumonia, but then said that he still plans to go to Dubai.

But today, "Pope Francis accepted the doctor's recommendation with great regret, and therefore the trip has been cancelled," said Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni.

The United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP28) begins on Thursday and will last until Tuesday, December 12.
