Pakistanis set fire to a man in the middle of the street for blasphemy
A mob in Pakistan today beat and killed a factory worker of Sri Lankan origin. Police said the violence was sparked by a charge of blasphemy.
Pakistani police say the victim worked as a manager at a factory in the town of Sialkot, where the killing took place.
Defiled posters with the name of the Prophet Muhammad?
Armagan Gondal, head of the Sialkot police station, said the incident came after some factory workers claimed the man "did not respect the posters" in the name of the Prophet Muhammad. writes Reuters.
But other police officers did not confirm the story and said investigators were still gathering information on the cause of the incident.
"No one should take the law into their own hands"
Allegations of blasphemy alone are often enough to lead to violence in Pakistan.
Punjab Prime Minister Usman Buzdar said "no one should take the law into their own hands".
"I am extremely shocked by the horrific incident in Sialkot. Rest assured, we will not spare the participants in this inhuman act! wrote Buzdar on Twitter.
