Pakistan: Greater interest in immunization after authorities announce cell phone blockade of non-vaccinated
People in Pakistan's most populous province flooded vaccination centers against Covid-19 days after Punjab authorities threatened to block cell phone service for those who refused to be vaccinated.
Pakistani authorities threatened citizens a few days ago that they would ban them from using mobile phones if they are not vaccinated against coronavirus. Earlier, a meeting of health officials in Pakistan's most populous Punjab province, chaired by Health Minister Yasmin Rashid, concluded that vaccination must be speeded up. However, it was not announced when such a measure would be implemented.
Following the initial plan to vaccinate most of Punjab's 67 million people by the end of the year, the government manages to vaccinate only 52.000 people a day. Many believe that the reason for this is the poor awareness of Pakistanis about the importance of the vaccine or concerns about possible side effects, according to RTL.
Now the government has gone a step further and threatened to confiscate mobile phones from all those who are not vaccinated, ie to turn off mobile telephony services. Most Pakistanis have access to the Internet primarily through mobile phones because they do not own laptops or computers, which means that it is possible to end up in a kind of information isolation.
In the past 27 hours in Pakistan, 991 deaths were registered, 1.282 newly infected and XNUMX recovered.
